In the 1970s, SK-II scientists noticed that the hands of elderly Japanese sake producers looked decades younger than their age. Realizing that brewers' hands are immersed for hours a day in fermented sake “puree”, scientists wondered if something in the fermentation process keeps the skin younger. Further studies of this process led to the discovery of PITERA™, a liquid obtained naturally as a result of yeast fermentation.

PITERA™ contains more than 50 trace elements, including antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and amino acids, which nourish and improve the condition of the skin in all aspects, reducing age-related changes and visible skin damage.
